Lest We Forget

Remembrance Day, the 11Th of November.
Is to commemorate the sacrifice of veterans and civilians of World War I, The Second World War and other wars and conflicts.

It is also observed on November 11 to recall the end of World War I on that date in 1918 at 11 am - the eleventh hour, on the eleventh day of the eleventh month.
We all have a way of making Remembrance Day our own, a way in which we let this important day resonate with our hearts, so that the day does not come and go unnoticed.
The first time that the travesties of war became real to me, was when I was a young teen girl, and learned the story of Ann Frank, and her diary.

I saw the movie Later read her story. My heart was so broken for this girl and her family. How they were forced to live, and how the control and ignorance of others forced her family into hiding, and then death. It was almost unreal to me as a young girl...to know that many years back that this, had happened to someone... a girl like me... just because of her religion and race.
Annelise Marie Frank, of Ann Franks diary.
Ann has become loved and known by thousands around the world. There stands many monuments in her name, there exists documents, memorials of her and others in Germany who fell to the second world war ....so that none of us should forget!

You can read more about Ann's unforgettable story, by clicking the link below.
Lately another heart striking story has emerged, the story of Hana Brady.
" Hana's SuitCase" is written as a children's non fiction book, by Karen Levine... turns out to be a very real story indeed...
Hanna's brother George, recognized the suit case of his little sister. He thought the case was lost many years back along with Hana and his family in the camps. All the while the suite case was in the hands of a war education center in Tokyo.

Fumiko Ishioka thought to seek out any remaining family of Hana's, via the suitcase... and found her brother George Brady... in Tronto, Canada.
The story can be heard on a CBC special...http://www.cbc.ca/thesundayedition/features/hanassuitcase/

The story of Ann Frank and of Hana Brady are not forgetten easily...
Lest we forget...women in the War Zone:

Men of war:

We need to remember the past in order to change the future.

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead.
Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe,
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch, be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields .

  3. War is so horrific,no matter how you justify it. The things humankind will do to each other. I've always been touched by the story of Ann Frank too. I've never heard of the other little girl, I'll be sure to go and read her story. Happy Veteran's Day Gracie.
